Cleaning is almost never fun, there’s no denying that. However, it is a necessary part of life and we all need to do it in order to keep our homes clean and healthy.
If you are one of those people who wait until the last moment to clean something, and then rush the whole thing, you are probably aware that you are not doing yourself any favors.
Cleaning experts at C&C Cleaning Services share some bad habit that many people have and that need to be broken if you want to live in a comfortable and clean home.
Dealing with Wet Towels and Shower Curtains
What do you do with a shower curtain after you are done showering? You probably don’t know because you don’t pay attention to it.
However, most of us know what we do with the towel we used. If you leave either of these bunched up while it is still wet, you risk having mildew growth.
You probably know the smell of mildew, the old, musty, wet smell. Well, you can prevent it, simply by closing the shower curtain so that it can dry faster. Also, get your towel off the ground and leave it somewhere to dry.
Empty Your Vacuum Cleaner Regularly
When’s the last time you vacuumed your home? If you said sometime in the past two weeks, you are doing it right. If not, you should really up you vacuuming schedule.
However, if you haven’t emptied (and washed your vacuum cleaner’s bag in a while, you might just be wasting your time. A vacuum cleaner bag can gather a lot of dirt and other debris, but it has a finite amount of storage.
After a while, it won’t be able to take in any new dirt unless you empty it. Even though it is unpleasant, you will need to do it.
Leaving the Dishes ‘to Soak’
In the past, before non-stick pans and similar modern amenities, it made sense to leave the dishes to soak in water so they would be easier to clean.
However, today, this is just an excuse not to wash the dishes right now. Or today… or tomorrow.
Leaving dirty dishes in the kitchen sink is the perfect environment for bacteria to grow – lots of organic waste and water.
Do your dishes either as soon as you have used them, or designate a time of day when you will do all of the dishes that have accumulated during that day. Alternatively, get a dishwasher and load it at regular intervals.
Stocking Your Fridge to the Brim
Having a well-provisioned home is a great thing. If you can afford to have a variety of foods and drinks in your fridge and home, you can consider yourself very lucky.
However, you shouldn’t overdo it. You don’t need two dozen bananas if your family only eats 5-6 because they will spoil and you will have to throw them away.
It can get even worse if you buy things for your fridge, like eggs or cheese, which spoil relatively quickly. If you fail to see that they have expired and keep them somewhere in the back of the fridge, they may eventually spoil and give off nasty smells.
Leaving Dusting for Last
If you have finally made yourself clean your home, most cleaning professionals agree that you should start with dusting. Getting all the dust from your shelves and other places on the furniture and the floor might ruin all of your hard work if you leave it for last.
As you can see, there are a few concessions that you have to make in order to have a clean home, but they are fairly simple and small and can bring you a lot of good.
