Ways To Have Avoid Appearing Like A Nerd In College

0

College is one place where we make some of our fondest memories. At the prime of our youth with high expectations of the future, we go into university to make new friends and learn new things.

College is also the best time to reinvent yourself from the person you used to be in high school. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with being nerdy, sometimes we have to adjust our lifestyle to ensure we fit in, especially in situations where it pays rich dividends to conform to societal expectations.

It pays to be unique, to stand out from the crowd. Yet being that nerdy guy who carries his textbooks even to church isn’t the coolest reputation you want amidst the ocean of fun to swim in college. Yet there is space for cultural transformation. Migrating from the introverted camp to the sanguine is not too difficult.

Let us show you how to stop appearing like a nerd in college:

Join a Game Club

For those who found it difficult to shed their nerd status in high school, not to worry, there are ways to channel this gift into obtaining legendary status in college. The UCLA social life, like other top colleges, is varied enough to accommodate all comers.

With e-sports on the rise, many clubs appeal to nerd culture. Game rooms abound on campuses, with Call of Duty and Naruto games having a humongous following. If you could make your mark in these competitions, you just might end up being amongst the coolest students on campus.

Change up your dressing style

The most conspicuous badge of nerds is their mindless dressing. Your image sends a powerful visual message as to who you are as a person. It is therefore paramount to avoid clothing with big logos or shirts with graphic images.

If you wear glasses, then it is time to start switching those spectacles for contact lenses or use glasses with fashionable frames. That Harry Porter goggles start doesn’t work much in college.

Be Willing To Socialize

Nerds are usually introverted; they build castles around themselves to shield them from the outside. They feel comfortable in their world quarantined from other social activities.

To stop being seen as a nerd, you have to quit being the lone wolf who sits at the back of the class. It may seem hard at first, but you could try by being open with your feelings and express your views when called upon to do so.

We know you are intelligent enough to build a NASA-grade spaceship in your bedroom, but resist the urge to raise your hand whenever a question is asked. Give other students a chance to be in the spotlight once in a while.

Balance your Activities

You do not have to spend all your time in the game room or the library. Your university years are the best time to meet new people and get culturally diverse. The UCLA social life is stocked with a variety of events, from rock concerts to TEDx talks. These activities allow students to find the right balance between work and play.

Conclusively, being a nerd is not as bad as it used to be in the past. The stereotype has changed with the times. However, if you feel your inner nerd is holding you back, then be sure to use these tips to make the most out of your college years.
