When the builders put concrete, metal, and wood together, they come up with a structure that can last for decades, if not centuries. Scaffolding is a sturdy but temporary structure to support the builders while construction is ongoing. Transport scaffold parts safely
Transporting scaffolding from one place to another may seem daunting. But it will not be that way when you know how to put it in a trunk without anyone (or the scaffold itself) getting injured during the process. Everything should be stacked. All bases, braces, planks, and all things flat should be on the floor of the vehicle bed. (You could use either a pickup or a truck for a safer passage.) The frames should be on top of that or in between planks. It would be best if you prevented structures from sticking out from the sides of the vehicle because you might hurt someone with it. An open tailgate is safer. Secure all moveable parts with tie-down straps if possible.
Know how to set up safe scaffolding
If the scaffolding is yours, then you probably know how to set it up already by heart. However, if you are renting scaffolds, you need to ask your provider how to set it up properly. Ensure that your platform stays upright with the proper braces and frames.
Install a guard rail
A safety harness may make you feel safe when going up to heights. But you could pull the whole scaffolding with you should you encounter a light fall. You endanger not only yourself but also every team member working with you at that moment. So it is best to be secure by installing a guard rail. The barrier will alert you if you are too close to the edge of your platform already.
Safely set up scaffolds on uneven ground
If your construction is on uneven land, it may seem tricky. Scaffolding without base plates or casters will structurally weaken your frames. When that happens, you cannot use them as it will compromise the safety of your team. Always have a 2×10 inches wood plank under each plate. The block will thwart any unnecessary hot asphalt or soft soil sinking. Putting in a second one is dangerous, so one wood-block is more than enough.
The scaffold is not all about frames or the planks alone. It is the culmination of all parts that make up a sturdy platform. Remember that a reliable scaffolding makes for faster productivity and a safer work environment for everyone involved in the construction.
